Pets at home

This is not updating just for the sake of updating.  I think I have fallen in love with the pets myself, haha!

The hamsters were 5 weeks old when we got them, slightly more than a month back.  In the first week, we actually watched them grow almost day by day.  On day one, they were nervous.  However they settled in very quickly, and grew quickly, probably due to sufficient food and good environment.  Now they are about double their original size.  In the past few weeks, they became very active too.  Whenever I approach the cage, and whenever I put things in or take things out (like food or sand bath), they will try to grab the dish or my finger.

Lynn is too young to fully take charge of the cleaning routine, but I make sure she is always involved in the cleaning.  She will do the simpler tasks, whereas I will do the messier ones.

The hamsters are used to Lynn, so they are quite well behaved whenever Lynn plays with them.  But still they bite Lynn.  They are suitable for kids like Lynn who LOVES (and thus tolerate) animals (behavior).  She will affectionately complain "ouch! you naught hamster!" whenever they bite her.

Last Saturday, we went to a fish farm with Winny and family, Mavis and Wee Juin.  So since last Sat, we have got some more pets.  Both Winny and Mavis got new fish tanks for their fishes.  We didn't rear ours in a proper tank; WK's mum got a glass container (from our kitchen cabinet) for Lynn's fishes and SNAILS!  I think they (2 of them) are some kind of water or sea snails.

We rear fish before, in proper fish tank, with air pumps, water plants and colored pebbles .  I did not blog about them because they were WK's "toy" then, and I wasn't keen at all.  It lasted about 2 years.  So this time round, the 3 adults were not that keen on the new fishes or snails.  However, Lynn's very excited about them.   Whenever I see her enthusiasm I just can't bear to say "no" to her.  It helps that I'm not that busy at work right now.  So now I have a little girl, 2 hamsters, 5 tiny fishes and 2 sea snails to take care of!  Well like Lynn said "Happy hamsters, happy family!".  I'm quite cheered up with the number of living things now living in my home, hahah!!

The sea snails always crawl out of the tank and we will find them either on the table or on the floor in the mornings.  A few days back we found some pink "stuff" on the top of the tank.  We think it's snail eggs.  This morning, there's some new snail eggs.  I wonder if they will hatch (at all?), when will they hatch, and what will hatch?

This morning, one snail on the table:
The other snail crawled a long way, out of the tank, along the floor, and was found near the balcony this morning.
The older egg is the dark pink one on the inside of the tank:
The new egg found this morning is the light pink on the outside of the tank:
Conclusion?  We, not only Lynn but myself too, are enjoying the process and experience.  I think WK's mum is enjoying them too!!

We brought 8 fishes home. 3 died within the first two days, but the remainding 5 survived till now. As for the snails, they crawl out of the water/tank every night, and Lynn will place them back every morning. However, this morning, we only see one snail, not sure where the other one crawl to!

I don't think the eggs will hatch, cos the ants eat them.
