There's a lot of discussion on education system year in year out. Now that Lynn's 6, we are now part of the system. I'm getting to understand why there's so much interest in this topic - it's really a challenge to provide the best form of education for your children.
Recently, there's a few issues with Lynn's childcare. Firstly, the school suddenly decided to stop the Abacus enrichment class from Oct onwards. Lynn had taken the Abacus class since the start of K1 and the result's quite encouraging. We wouldn't let her continue outside school, cos it's troublesome. It's such a distrubing turn of event.
Secondly, the school has got problem getting a new Chinese teacher after they terminated the previous one in mid of Term 3. All the chinese teachers in the past were from PRCs. I understand that it is the norm today (unlike our time), that almost all chinese teachers employed in the education system are chinese nationals. However, there's a lot of problems with them (atitude, credentials, etc). Again, I'm very disappointed with the way the childcare handle the situation. Nowadays, I try to teach her some chinese myself.
Anyway, here's some not so serious stuff. Lynn goes for chinese speech-and-drama class on Sat mornings. Her class is on level 3. All the parents bring the kids to the doorstep of the classroom (we do that too). There was this day about one month back, that I asked her to get out of the car by herself, go up the lobby by herself, and go to the class on level 3 by herself, while I watch her go into the stairway in my car (I was driving). When I drove off, I was worried, so I drove to the carpark 2 blocks away from the school and walked back to the school to check. I got to the class and saw her shoes outside the classroom, then I left.
(Scheduled for Sat. Sun, sea and sand!!!)
