Here's a conversation that took place 2 days back at my grandma's house:
Hubby :Taiwan is a great place to retire, it has four seasons, food that's similar with ours...
Aunt: Disagree, I don't drive, so I think it is difficult to get around. Singapore (city state) is a better place to retire...
Hubby: Disagree... blah .. blah...blah...
Aunt: blah... blah....blah...
(then their topic changed slightly)
Hubby: I going Jeju for circling next June. (He wanted me and Lynn to come along)
Aunt: Oh nice.. SW you going with him? (she meant: you should go with him)
Me: (Blur.. watching TV) Hur... err.. But we want (we are) going Korea for skiing in Dec next year
Hubby (mean streak taking over): See what happen to Kwek LJ...
Me: (still blur.. watching TV) : Hur.. What Kwek/what about Kwek???
Aunt: The guy who died..
Me: Yah, what about him??
Aunt: He (Hubby) means Dec next year is so far away, can't tell what will happen between now and then..
Me: (pissed off with the 2 of them; Aunt has a little mean streak too, but far lesser than Hubby)
What's the big deal about Jeju? Never been there (then die) so what?
The world is full of opinionated people with different life values. Values that changes with life experience. There is hardly right and wrong, only differences in perspective. The ability to practice respect, in action and in speech, is highly commendable.
