Shanghai Trip Mar 2012

My super long holidays is coming to an end. Will blog about that next week. Just want to finish posting on my Shanghai trip first.

WK's been going to Shanghai for work at least 1 week in a month, sometimes two weeks. He stays at Ascott service apartment whenever he's there, and he always says that it's big enough for me and Lynn to bunk in. So I used my miles to get free ticket and went there for 4 days (without Lynn).

There's a very attractive indoor pool at the service apartment that he's staying. I didn't get the chance to use it this time, so hopefully I can bring Lynn there sometime soon:

As stated on this chart, the temperature outside was 7C, but temperature of the room and the water were 29C:

Shanghai's not as cold as Seoul (its was about 7 to 9C), but the few days that I was there, it was all rainy and cloudy and gloomy. On Thursday, I went along 淮海中路,one of the famous shopping area, and also where WK stays. Things in Shanghai are expansive. For the international brands, they are more or less the prices that we find in singapore (and more expansive than Seoul). For the local brands, the designs are just not "suitable".

I took a few pics of the pedestrian overhead bridge structure at the expressway junction at 淮海中路, cos it's interesting. It's like a highway for pedestrian, leading to all sides of the cross road junction:

On Friday, like Thursday, I roamed alone (WK worked during these 2 days). I tried the metro on Friday, taking the train from 黄陂南路 (where the service apartment is) to 人民公圆, where the famous 南京路步行街 is.

The station at 黄陂南路 is very basic, so when I reached 人民公圆 station, I was very impressed. It's the biggest interchange station (with 20 exits leading to different parts of 南京路 area), and has some better underground shopping. There's a "Hong Kong street" near exit 1 where the items are pretty fashionable.
Here's some pics of the underground shopping:

When I came out of the station, the view of the commercial buildings in the 南京路 area against the grey sky and barren trees was beautiful, so I took a few pics:

I suddenly remembered that Lynn was suppose to collect autumn leaves for her lesson, so I took one home from Shanghai:

I have been to 南京路步行街during my previous trips here. There used to be some street stores along this stretch but not anymore now. There are more international stores here now. I bought a red coat, local brand, about s$40, for Lynn. One thing that I learn is that the problem with shopping alone is that I get approached a lot by people selling products or doing surveys.

Here's some pics of the area:

I saw this "bus" selling dessert, so I got on! The interior (gold colour plastic small wall tile) was very pretty.

On both days, I had breakfast with wk from 8 to 9, then went back to our room before heading out at 1030 (so that it's not so cold). Guess what I did in the room?? I actually tried on heavy eye make up and "cam whore"!! Haha. I took more than 100 shots over the 2 days, only 1/3 of them were pretty enough for me not to delete. I'm going to show a few here, so don't laugh at me ok??

On sat, we went to the band (上海滩) and then 东方明珠塔. We had coffee and ice cream at haagen dazs along the band in the afternoon:

My hot chocolate came with a spoon made of chocolate:

This was the first time I go up 东方明珠塔. There are 3 levels of observatories - 90m, 270m (I think) and 350m. Here are some views of the apple store from various heights:

At 350m, there's an area where the floor is glass. I'm more brave when it came to stepping on glass floor than WK:

We left at evening time, when the lights were on:

It was a good trip for couple bonding; we enjoyed this time that we spent together. Let me share a joke about WK (and men in general I think). When his started going China regularly, I took out all his winter clothes. I remember when and where he bought most of his stuff, except for this long outer piece:

So that day in Shanghai I asked him "Where did you buy this piece from?" And he said "I thought its you who got it for me .. its from the cabinet.."

Haha thank you.

Can consider going for a few days, he probably can take a room with 2 single beds. Take your time, have some patience, the kids will grow up very soon, and you can take longer holidays with either friends or with Derrick!
